Honda (UK) plugs into customer demand for electric mowers

Honda (UK) has strengthened its acclaimed lawn mower range with the addition of two new electric models, the HRE330 and HRE370.

These new models have been designed specifically to deliver improved cutting and collecting performance through a new blade and fan, which improves airflow, combined with an optimised design of the cutter housing. The new blade shape also reduces noise and enhances robustness and safety. Grass bag capacity is impressive – at 27 litres and 35 litres respectively.

Usability has also been enhanced significantly. A carry handle has been added to aid transportation and a full width bail switch allows easy operation and mowing whether the user is predominantly left or right handed. Additionally a wire tidy tag and bar keep cables out of the way, and a single height adjust lever on the HRE370 allows quick and easy cutting height adjustment. Both machines are very light – weighing in at 11kg and 15kg respectively.

The new models also feature an all new design and look – dynamic and sharp, with a contemporary and progressive streamlined shape which makes them distinctively Honda. The HRE330 features a 33cm cutter deck, and the HRE370 a larger 37cm deck.

The watt power rating of the HRE330 is 1100w, with the larger HRE370 rated at 1300w; both deliver a 2850rpm blade speed and have 15m jointed extension leads. The new models also feature a new Thermal Cut Off Protection switch which protects the motor from burning out if the blades stop turning when the machine is overloaded or put into an abnormal environment. If the blade stops turning repeatedly the motor is deactivated preventing any permanent damage. Noise levels have also been reduced, thanks to the addition of new motor covers.

David Hodgkinson, Marketing Communications Manager (Power Equipment), Honda (UK)

"The UK is the largest market in Europe for electric lawn mowers, with approximately 1.2m units sold annually. As a leading UK manufacturer it's therefore a natural fit to introduce these models to meet this demand and increase the breadth of choice that we are known for. We expect them to be very well received by UK customers who have smaller gardens or simply want an easy to maintain machine which also does an excellent job."

The new electric models will be available across the Honda (UK) Authorised Dealer Network network, online and in other selected retail outlets from December 2010. Prices are yet to be confirmed.
